If Americans are so hated around the world why should we get pports?

I find it amusing that so many people say that Americans are hated around the world, and shortly after or before making that brilliant observation they note with concern that only x% of Americans have pports. Well if we are so hated, and presumably the people that hate us aren't the type of people we would want as friends anyway, why should we bother getting pports and economically help the people that hate us so much anyway?
