My neighbour has a staff with a curious problem?

My neighbours dog is normally very friendly and jumps all over as i go out, but today i noticed it is very quiet. As i went to stroke it, i noticed a big red ball seemingly coming out of it's backside, this is larger than a golf ball but not quite as big as a tennis ball. It's a female dog any ideas what this may be?
