Should I friend him on Facebook?

A little complicated, so here's the back story. We've been friends for almost a year which turned into kinda dating when he kissed me a couple months ago. Would it look like an "act of desperation" if I friend him on Facebook? Rules of dating typically say you should always let guys make the first move on absolutely EVERYTHING but I'm getting so sick of these rules of dating!!! (Note: We're also old - late twenties to mid thirties. If that helps.)
