Who knows about Mystery Shopper ?

I received a letter in the mail to be a mystery shopper. they even sent me a check. The name of the company is J.B Research consultants llc. the return address is from canada j.b is in florida and the check is from a plumbing company in machusettes. Does anyone know if this is a scam?? It just seems to good to be true... Thanks for your help..
